This usually comes from loose hinges, a shifted frame, or a closer that is pulling the door out of alignment. If you see metal shavings, scrape marks, or the latch barely lines up, stop forcing it because it can bend hardware or crack glass. A tech can realign the door, tighten or replace worn parts, and make sure it swings smoothly again.

Most of the time its alignment. The door can sag, the strike plate can shift, or the latch can wear down. Temperature changes can also make the frame move slightly. A proper fix is adjusting the door and hardware so the latch hits the strike cleanly and locks without having to push or lift the door.

Closers slam when the speed valves are out of adjustment, the closer is failing, or the door is binding. If it will not fully close, the sweep speed or latching speed may be too slow, or the closer may be leaking and losing control. A service call usually involves tuning the closer, checking hinge friction, and replacing the closer if it is worn out.

Treat it as a safety issue. Keep people away from the area, avoid opening or closing the door if the glass is unstable, and secure the entry if possible. A pro can remove the damaged panel safely, install the correct glass type, and recheck the door alignment so the new glass is not stressed.

Common causes include dirty or misaligned sensors, a failing operator, track or roller resistance, or power and control issues. Sometimes it works for one person but not another because the sensor zone is off. A technician can diagnose the operator, recalibrate sensors, confirm safe closing force, and test the door so it runs reliably during busy hours.
